VolunTourism in Cameroon
What if you could combine volunteering and tourism in one trip? Call it VolunTourism! This is what we offer. Voluntourism in Cameroon was born when I started travelling to Cameroon with members from my Wisconsin community to volunteer with my non-profit organization, Ma-Kah Water for All, www.makahwaterforall.org. This organization builds pump wells to provide clean drinking water for villagers in Cameroon, West Africa.
We do two trips per year; June and December. The trips are usually 14 to 18 days depending on the group and the period. Trip cost is about $3500-$3800 per person depending on inflation. This includes flight from Chicago O’Hare to Douala, Cameroon (round trip), travel insurance, ground transportation, 90% of your meals, drinking water, housing (see pictures of living quarters), all tourist visits, entertainment and two nights in a hotel (one night in Douala on arrival and one night in Limbe before we exit).
Participants will volunteer in building a pump well in a given village while spending some time visiting craft shops, Chief palaces, open markets, the largest tea estate and private ranch in Africa, sampling local cuisine, hiking in Bali and experiencing Cameroon culture first hand. This is a tourist with a fulfilling purpose. I guarantee you will return from this trip a changed person.
Our trip is maxed at six people per trip. Students can work with their schools to earn elective or extra credits for this trip.
